Psalms and spirituality: transform your life through the scriptures

Psalms and spirituality go hand in hand as a way to deeply connect with the divine and strengthen the soul. These poetic prayers, found in the Book of Psalms, carry centuries of wisdom and continue to be a source of inspiration and comfort.

More than just ancient texts, the psalms are invitations to reflect, pray and seek balance in life's challenging and joyful moments. By reciting them, we join a powerful egregore of faith that crosses generations and cultures, providing strength and serenity.

In this article, we'll explore together the meaning, depth and power of these ancient prayers, which connect people from all over the world in a chain of faith and hope. I'd also like to take this opportunity to share a little about the psalms course I've developed, designed especially for those who want to delve deeper into this transformative practice.

What is the origin of the psalms?

The psalms were written in a period dating back more than 3,000 years, in a context of praise, meditation and supplication. King David is known to be the author of many of them, although other psalmists have also contributed.

What makes the psalms so special is their timelessness. Even though they were written in the distant past, they reflect universal human emotions that are still relevant today.

Desperation for answers, gratitude for blessings and the search for divine protection are feelings that we all experience at some point in our lives.

In my course, we go beyond history. We explore how the psalms, even in a modern world, remain relevant for those seeking spiritual comfort. For example, Psalm 91, one of the best known, is widely used as a psalm of protection, bringing support to those facing fears and uncertainties.

By understanding the historical and spiritual context of the psalms, you will be able to appreciate their depth and applicability in everyday life even more.

Exploring the link between the psalms and spirituality

The psalms are much more than religious texts. They are bridges between humankind and the divine.

Found in the Book of Psalms in the Bible, these poetic prayers were written to express the deepest feelings of the human soul: joy, sadness, despair, gratitude, faith, among many others.

Over the centuries, the psalms have transcended cultural and religious boundaries. They are recited by people of different beliefs and backgrounds, creating a powerful egregore of spirituality.

This collective energy is a proof of the transformative power of the psalms, which have the potential to strengthen our faith and bring spiritual clarity in difficult times.

How the psalms reflect the human search for the divine

The psalms are a mirror of the human soul, as 16th century theologian John Calvin used to say. They capture all the feelings that inhabit the human heart: pain, joy, repentance, gratitude and, above all, the search for a connection with the divine.

It is this connection that makes the psalms such a powerful spiritual tool.

When we recite a psalm, we are not just reading words; we are joining a chain of faith that transcends time and space. An example of this is the power of psalms and prayer, which together create a moment of deep introspection and spiritual communion.

During the course, we explore how each psalm can be used to express these feelings and channel spiritual energy to face life's challenges. This practice helps us reconnect with our essence and find meaning even in the most difficult times.

The psalms as a way to develop mediumship

The psalms are so powerful that they also function as a tool for those who wish to explore and develop mediumship, this channel that connects the spiritual world to the material one. More than just reciting sacred words, the psalms create a high vibration that helps to open up and strengthen our spiritual perceptions.

Mediumistic development requires preparation, discipline and spiritual protection. In this sense, the psalms act as a secure base, helping to create a harmonious energy field and strengthening the connection with higher energies.

For example, by choosing a psalm that resonates with your intention - such as seeking clarity, asking for protection or deepening intuition - you activate an internal process of expanding consciousness and greater receptivity to the subtle signs of the universe.

In addition, the constant repetition of the psalms creates a spiritual routine that stabilizes the emotions and helps keep the mind calm. This serenity is essential for those who work or want to work with mediumship, as it allows us to differentiate between messages that come from outside and those that arise from within us.

Integrating the psalms into everyday spirituality

Did you know that the psalms can be great allies in your spiritual routine? Incorporating them into your daily life is simple and extremely enriching.

Start by choosing a psalm that resonates with the situation you are experiencing.

If you are looking for strength, Psalm 23 could be a great choice. If you need protection, Psalm 121 can be your refuge. Reciting them aloud or mentally during your meditation or before the bedtime can bring a sense of calm and spiritual connection.

In the course, I present practices that go beyond simply reading the psalm. I have seen through experience that it is essential to follow a “beginning-middle-ending” structure rather than simply reciting the psalm. It's common to have an intention when praying a particular psalm, but this intention, along with other important points, needs to be clearly stated in the opening, before praying the psalm itself.

I have created a basic structure in which I teach how to make the opening and closing, where gratitude plays a privileged role. Using this structure to carry out the prayer greatly enhances the transformative power of the psalms.

Just like some practices, such as Tarot reading or The Maha Leela Game, praying the psalms can open up paths and deepen the process of spiritual development.

The purpose is for the psalms to become practical and transformative tools in your life.

Spiritual interpretation: finding messages in the psalms

Each psalm is a spiritual work of art, loaded with profound meanings that can guide us at different times in our lives. But how can we understand what they really mean?

Understanding the various meanings of each psalm is an exercise in self-knowledge and spirituality. Even though, in general, each psalm focuses on one or two main subjects, the vast majority of the time, the same psalm addresses quite diverse themes or situations. For example, Psalm 46 can be seen as a source of courage in times of difficulty or as a reminder of God's constant presence.

During the course, the various themes addressed in each psalm are presented as well as how they can be applied in everyday life, facilitating the process of personal and spiritual development. We will explore how their messages can be applied to daily routines, making them guides for important decisions and moments of introspection.

The psalms show us how human we are

The psalms offer us a mirror of human experience and a window into the nature of God.

When we open the Book of Psalms, we find a raw and honest portrait of universal human emotions. Each psalm bears the mark of humanity in its most authentic form, while at the same time connecting us with divine greatness.

One example is the cry of despair in “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?” (Psalm 22), which echoes the darkest moments of our existence. But there is also room for joyful praise in “Who is like the Lord our God?” (Psalm 113).

These verses show that, regardless of what we feel, there is a sacred space for these emotions in the divine presence.

Besides expressing our feelings, the psalms are also a guide to understanding who God is. God is described as our refuge and strength (Psalm 91), the One who hears our cry (Psalm 6) and the One who raises the poor from the dust (Psalm 113).

Such images teach us how to talk about God in our daily lives, creating a rich spiritual vocabulary for moments of pain as well as celebration.

Thus, the psalms are not only a form of prayer, but also a bridge between humankind and the divine, an invitation to recognize ourselves in the Scriptures and seek God's nature in our journeys, expressing and highlighting how human we are.
